The reason to reform the component is the new engine regulations for the season 2014 in the real racing world. The goal is to achieve more differences between the Fantasy Engine and Chassis components regarding to scoring and strategy.
The engine component can consist of one, two or three real racing teams. The racing teams are re-assigned at the beginning of each season according to the last Years Constructors standings and the entry list.
1. Renault (Factory engine): Red Bull, Lotus
2. Mercedes (Factory engine): Mercedes, McLaren
3. Ferrari (Factory engine): Ferrari
4. Mercedes (Customer engine): Force India, Williams
5. Ferrari (Customer engine): Sauber, Marussia
6. Renault (Customer engine): Toro Rosso, Caterham
Scoring Qualifying:
The ranking is made according to the average of the positions of the assigned driver of the real racing teams. If the component consists of 3 real racing teams, the position average of 3 best-placed driver from the assigned real racing teams plus the best-placed of the remaining 3 driver is taken. In the case of an equal score the tie-breaker is the best single placement of a driver. The Qualifying scores are calculated in exactly the same way as the component team principal.
Scoring Race:
The race score is the sum of the ranking points (look at the table below) of the assigned driver of the real racing teams. Retired driver are not awarded with ranking points. If the component consists of 3 real racing teams, only the 3 best-placed driver from the assigned real racing teams plus the best-placed of the remaining 3 driver are scoring. For completed race laps no points are awarded.
Minus points:
An engine blow-up in the race leads to 3 minus points. If the exchange of the power train (or a part of it) causes a grid penalty for the driver an assigned real racing team, 3 minus points are awarded. Per race 6 minus points at most can be subtracted (If the component consists only of 1 real racing team: maximal 1x engine blow-up and 1x grid penalty).
Maximal 34 points can be scored with this component.
