  2014: Development of KERS to ERS 2015?
The existing KERS feature in the expert mode is based on KERS used in the real world till the end of 2013. With the new engine regulations introduced in 2014 the relation to the reality got lost a little bit.

There are 3 possibilities for the future of the KERS feature:

1.) Remove the KERS feature from the game play
2.) The use of KERS unchanged in the future
3.) Develop a new ERS feature

I have made to myself some thoughts to 3.):
What has changed in the reality?
The energy storage capacity has become bigger. There is a kinetic and a heat energy recovery system available (therefore, only ERS). ERS is now an integrated component of the power unit and the drivers have lost the direct access to the additional electric energy (no KERS button anymore). The software controls the additional electrical energy (throttle and brake 'by wire').

What would this mean for ERS with PFRL?
The ERS storage capacity is extended to 20 points and the maximum charge or discharge amount per race is limited to 10 points. In addition the feature ERS is linked to the selected engine component. The achieved points of the engine influence the efficiency of ERS. More than one third of the engine points cannot be charged or discharged with ERS. The complete control of ERS is taken from the player. With a strong engine ERS is more effective than with a weak aggregate.

Because ERS is now a permanent component of the power unit, experts are able to charge immediately ERS in the race without investing 1 Mio before. With 1 Mio. experts can charge ERS before a race with 5 points (or perhaps only 4 points). Per race experts are able to invest only 1 Mio. in the ERS component.
It is still open how much money experts may invest in the ERS component:
1.) As before 3 Mio. per season
2.) 5 Mio. per season (number of the permitted power unit like in the reality)
3.) Unlimited (perhaps a to big advantage in 20 races: 100 points for 20 Mio.)

These are my suggestions for the development of KERS to ERS for the season 2015 as a basis for discussions. Other suggestions, criticism or new ideas are pretty welcome of course.

There's no need to change this game... but if there is an elegant solution to depict the reality as genuinely as possible next year, too, I will support it of course. So both thumbs up for the ERS feature. 5 mios to invest in the feature per season sounds good to me.

@Chris Your thoughts about DRS sound familiar to me. If I'm not completely mistaken, Maverick's idea was very similar to yours, but it wasn't implemented back then.

the development from kers to ers depending on the choosen engine seems to be a very good idea. maybe we should pay one million per single race, if we wanna use it. so it isnt a continual discision to the end and gives more possiblilities and strategies. i think, a chance for a little payment in beginn of the saison would be taken of everyone.

and maybe someone has a good idea to implement a component of drs. :-) maybe a player can use it for some points, if he isnt in the top5 of qualifying in his league, or top500 overall-quali. or it could depends on the worldcupstanding.
but this are only some loose ideas, actually its all fine now :D

edit: i think one million for one race is enough for double up the enginepoints you already get in this race :D
or you get 50% of this points. but it shouldnt be a kind of charging.

I don't see any reason for dropping the tyre component. But I think there is a need of a reformation of the KERS feature.

If you make a feature more complicated, wouldn't it be good to delete a feature which is for a very long time not related to F1 anymore (Pirelli Prime and Option, split into two groups of teams)?

I thought you might be preparing a new idea here.

My immediate reaction: I like option 3, but would suggest keeping the maximum possible investment at 3 Mio, at least for the first year of the new rules.
